Christmas with Charles Joguet Clos de la Dioterie

Christmas Wine Charles Joguet

Merry Christmas Grapejuice readers!

For this season’s holiday, I wanted to showcase a wine that is worthy of this glorious day. Pour yourself a glass and you will feel instantly warm and fuzzy inside. Yes, I realize that most wines give you this feeling, but I assure you, this wine is perfect!

This grape juice is 100% Cabernet Franc, from Chinon, France and is one of my personal favorites. Notes of spice, black currant, and anise make for a deep and expressive wine, perfect for all things Christmas: coziness by the fire, family time, and extravagant meals.

Made by Domaine Charles Joguet, Chinon and Charles Joguet are synonymous. Ella Fitzgerald to Jazz. Michael Jackson to Pop. You get the picture. He has created techniques that have become common practice in Chinon. Separating terroirs and separating years, he is the master of single-vineyard.

This wine is pure, traditional, delicate, and lovely. To me, it is just like Christmas day. Happy Christmas to all, and to all, a good night!

Holiday Shopping at Home with Pleiades XXIII

IMG_6059(1)pleiades

While the weather outside is not particularly frightening I would say, however, that the holiday shopping crowd is.  Forecast called for a cyclonic flurry of people searching for the perfect gifts, one that I did not wish to find myself in this year.  I opted to stay in the comfort of my home with a little wine to match my digital search for perfect gifts.

Sean Thackrey’s Pleiades XXIII is an old vine blend that may as well have a question mark on the label.  The blend changes every year and drinkability never wavers.  It’s fun to put some faith in this unusual winemaker.

Shopping seems like an endless task sans alcoholic beverage but with this interesting, vibrant and earthy red wine I didn’t mind it so much. A note to the good folks I was shopping for three glasses in: it’s the thought that counts. Happy holidays!

The Perfect Wine For Your Boss is Broadside

Broadside

Buying the perfect wine for your boss around the holidays is never easy. First of all, you think, “I’m not getting paid enough to be buying extra gifts.” Then you think, “If I don’t get my boss the perfect gift, I’m pretty sure they’ll subconsciously hate me, and then I’ll lose my job” (panic ensues).

When in doubt, go with booze. I’m pretty sure Santa goes by that FYI. That’s why I got my boss Broadside Cabernet Sauvignon from Paso Robles. I chose this wine because it is classic enough to be approachable for most people, but also special in that it’s artisanal and not your usual “Napa Cab.”

This Broadside, has those Cab Sauv qualities most people like (rich, dark, a little tannic), but is surprisingly subtle, balanced and not overpowered by oak and fruit flavors.

If you’re a lowly assistant like me, you probably aren’t rolling in the Benjamins. The great thing about this wine? $20 a bottle. BOOM.

Now to write the card…
